Background
Manchester United Football Club club history
Manchester United are England's most successful club by league titles — a record 20 — and three-time champions of Europe. Home is Old Trafford, the 'Theatre of Dreams' and the largest club stadium in the country.
Founded in 1878 as Newton Heath, the club was rebuilt after the war by Matt Busby, whose young 'Busby Babes' were decimated by the 1958 Munich air disaster. Busby rebuilt again, and in 1968 United became the first English club to win the European Cup, led by Best, Law and Charlton.
The defining era was Sir Alex Ferguson's, from 1986 to 2013 — 13 league titles, two Champions Leagues, and the crowning 1999 Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and European Cup, sealed with two stoppage-time goals in Barcelona.
Ferguson's 2013 retirement began a more turbulent chapter of managers and rebuilds as the club works to return to the summit of the English and European game.
Honours. A record 20 league titles · 3 European Cups / Champions Leagues (1968, 1999, 2008) · the 1999 Treble · 13 FA Cups · 6 League Cups · Europa League · European Cup Winners' Cup.
The ground. Old Trafford has been United's home since 1910 and holds around 74,000 — the largest club ground in England. Christened the 'Theatre of Dreams' by Sir Bobby Charlton, its Stretford End is the traditional home of the club's most vocal support, and the ground remains one of world football's great venues.

Seating at Old Trafford
Old Trafford's four sides: the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand (north) is the biggest at three tiers; the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand (south) is the oldest, carries the TV gantry, and its central seats are premium. The Stretford End (west) is the traditional home end.
Away fans sit in the corner between the East Stand and the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. For value, the upper tiers of the north stand usually undercut equivalent sideline views elsewhere in the ground.
