About
About the FA Cup
The Football Association Challenge Cup — known universally as the FA Cup — was founded by the FA in 1871 and remains the oldest national football competition in the world. Eligibility is open to every men's club affiliated to the FA, drawing more than seven hundred entrants each season from the National League pyramid up to the Premier League; lower-division sides enter at qualifying rounds in August, with Premier League and Championship clubs joining at the third round in early January. The competition is a single-leg knockout — replays were phased out from the third round onward in 2024 — and the final is played at Wembley Stadium on a Saturday in late May. Arsenal lead the all-time roll with fourteen wins, ahead of Manchester United on thirteen, Chelsea on eight and Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa on multiple titles each. The cup retains its reputation as the home of football's biggest upsets, with non-league sides regularly drawing — and occasionally beating — top-flight opposition. The winner enters the following season's Europa League league phase. Broadcast rights are split between the BBC and ITV in the United Kingdom.
The FA Cup — formally the Football Association Challenge Cup and known commercially as the Emirates FA Cup since 2015 under sponsorship — is the oldest football competition in the world, first contested in the 1871/72 season. Organised by the Football Association, it is open to every men's club at step 10 of the English football pyramid and above, drawing entries from across roughly 700 clubs ranging from Premier League giants to amateur sides playing in front of a few hundred supporters.
The competition runs from August (extra preliminary round) through to the final in May, with non-league clubs progressing through six qualifying rounds (extra preliminary, preliminary, first qualifying, second qualifying, third qualifying, fourth qualifying) before reaching the first round proper in early November. Premier League and Championship clubs enter at the third round in early January — the round famous for cup upsets, when top-flight sides travel to lower-league grounds and frequently come unstuck against opposition several divisions below.
From the third round onward, ties are single-leg: traditionally a draw at full-time triggered a replay at the opposite ground, though the FA progressively scrapped replays from the quarter-finals first and then earlier rounds, with extra time and penalties now deciding ties on the day from the fifth round onward. The semi-finals and final are played at Wembley Stadium under the arch — the FA Cup final traditionally held on a Saturday in late May, kick-off historically at 3pm but more recently shifted to 5:30pm for broadcast across global audiences.
Wembley Stadium (90,000 capacity) is the spiritual home of the competition and the venue for both semi-finals and the final since the new ground opened in 2007. Ticket allocations for the final are split between the two finalist clubs (roughly 25,000 each), the FA's affiliated county associations and member clubs, corporate hospitality, and a public ballot — secondary-market inventory typically clears in the days immediately before the match. The traditional pre-match singing of Abide With Me remains a fixture of the FA Cup final ceremony.
Arsenal is the most decorated FA Cup club with 14 titles, followed by Manchester United with 13 and Chelsea with 8 — Tottenham, Liverpool and Aston Villa also feature prominently in the all-time count. The competition's romance is built on lower-league giant-killings — Wrexham, Sutton United, Bradford City, Lincoln City, Wigan Athletic (the 2013 winners as a Premier League side that was relegated the same season) and most recently Plymouth Argyle have all delivered famous third-round and fifth-round upsets. The FA Cup winner earns Europa League qualification for the following season.

FAQ
FA Cup ticket FAQs
Are FA Cup tickets on Anyseats authentic?
Yes. Every fa cup ticket is sourced from a verified seller and verified before delivery. If a ticket fails verification, the listing never goes live. All orders are backed by our 100% Buyer Guarantee — full automatic refund if you're denied entry, the match is cancelled, or the fixture is postponed without a replacement date.
When will my FA Cup tickets arrive?
Most fa cup tickets are delivered electronically within five days of kick-off — email and SMS the moment they're ready. The latest guaranteed delivery window is 24 hours before the match. For the small number of grounds that still issue paper tickets, we ship via tracked courier worldwide.
Why are FA Cup ticket prices sometimes above face value?
Anyseats is a secondary marketplace — listings are set by individual verified sellers, and fa cup prices reflect supply and demand on a per-fixture basis. Top-six clashes, derby matches, and final-day fixtures typically sit above face value; routine mid-week games are often at or below face.
What happens if my FA Cup match is cancelled or postponed?
Postponed matches are usually rescheduled and your ticket remains valid for the new date — no action required. If the fixture is cancelled outright with no replacement, you receive a full refund within 14 days. Both outcomes are covered automatically by our 100% Buyer Guarantee.
Can I buy FA Cup away tickets?
Yes. Anyseats lists both home and away allocations from our verified-seller network. Away allocations release on a club-by-club rolling basis and supply is capped — book the moment a fixture is announced if you're travelling.
