History

About Etihad Stadium

The Etihad Stadium opened in 2002 as the City of Manchester Stadium for the Commonwealth Games. It was converted for football before Manchester City moved from Maine Road in 2003. The Etihad name followed in 2011. The expanded North Stand opened in 2026, taking capacity above 60,000 and adding new seating and matchday spaces.

Seating layout

The East and Colin Bell stands run along the touchlines; the North and South stands are behind the goals. The expanded North Stand has changed the seating layout, so use the current map and ticket entrance. Away supporters use designated South Stand blocks, while hospitality products have their own access and inclusions.

• South Stand

  Behind the south goal and an established centre of home singing. Visiting supporters use designated blocks on the south-east side, separated from home sections.

• North Stand

  The expanded end behind the opposite goal, with a large upper tier, singing sections and new matchday spaces. Check the current level and entrance on your ticket.

• East Stand

  Three tiers along the eastern touchline. Central blocks provide side-on views, with Level 2 balancing elevation and proximity to the pitch.

• Colin Bell Stand (West)

  The western touchline stand, opposite the East Stand, with the dugouts and premium facilities. Central seats provide the classic halfway-line view.

Metro / Tram

Etihad Campus tram stop (Metrolink, Ashton-under-Lyne line) is adjacent to the stadium. A 2-minute walk to the turnstiles.

Train

Manchester Piccadilly is 15 minutes by tram via Etihad Campus.

Bus

Stagecoach 216, 217 services run to Ashton New Road.

Walk

Manchester city centre to Etihad Campus tram: 5 minutes; tram to stadium: 10 minutes.

Drive

From the M60 (junction 23) take A635 to Ashton New Road.

Parking

Stadium car parks (Blue, Yellow, Red, Green) require pre-booking through Manchester City. Spaces are limited and sell out quickly. Public parking in the surrounding area is restricted by matchday clearways.
