Fulham are the Cottagers — London's oldest professional football club, founded in 1879, and one of the Premier League's most characterful sides. Every home match is played at Craven Cottage, the club's riverside home on the banks of the Thames in south-west London.

Founded in 1879 and playing at Craven Cottage since 1896, Fulham are the oldest established professional football club in London. For much of the 20th century they were a well-loved but modest club, defined more by character than silverware — and above all by Johnny Haynes, the elegant playmaker and England captain who, after the maximum wage was abolished in 1961, became the first £100-a-week footballer. He remains the club's greatest player, and the ground's oldest stand carries his name.

The modern club was built under Mohamed Al-Fayed, who bought Fulham in 1997 and bankrolled a climb from the lower divisions to the Premier League in five years. The high point came in 2010: under Roy Hodgson, Fulham knocked out Juventus and Hamburg on a remarkable run to the Europa League final, where they lost narrowly to Atlético Madrid after extra time — the greatest European night in the club's history.

Since Shahid Khan's 2013 takeover, Fulham became one of English football's classic yo-yo clubs, bouncing between the Premier League and the Championship before Marco Silva's side won promotion in 2022 and settled Fulham as an established top-flight team. Off the pitch, the redeveloped Riverside Stand — opened in 2024 — reshaped the Thames-side ground and lifted Craven Cottage's capacity toward 29,600.

The ground. Craven Cottage has sat beside the River Thames since 1896 and is one of English football's most distinctive grounds. The Grade II-listed Johnny Haynes Stand — an Archibald Leitch design and one of the oldest surviving stands in English football — and the pavilion 'Cottage' in the corner give it a look nothing else in the league matches. The Hammersmith End behind the north goal is the traditional home of the loudest support; the new Riverside Stand, opened in 2024, added a modern tier and rooftop while keeping the ground's riverside charm and lifting capacity toward 29,600.
