St James' Park.

Home of Newcastle United since 1880

St James' Park is the oldest football ground in continuous use in north-east England. The asymmetric design. The Milburn and Leazes stands rise far higher than the East and Gallowgate stands, is a result of planning restrictions on the protected Leazes terrace facing the ground.

History

About St James' Park

St James' Park has hosted football since 1880 and Newcastle United since the club's founding in 1892. Successive expansions through the 20th century and a major rebuild in the late 1990s lifted capacity from around 30,000 to today's 52,305. The ground sits in the heart of Newcastle city centre. Closer to its city's main shopping streets than any other Premier League stadium to its host city centre.

Seating layout

St James' Park seating plan & capacity

The asymmetric seating bowl (tall stands west and north, shorter stands east and south) is a result of a 1990s planning restriction preventing further expansion of the Leazes side which faces a protected Georgian terrace. Premium seats sit in the executive level of the Milburn Stand. The Gallowgate End Lower has the most vocal home support.

  • Sir Bobby Robson Stand (Milburn Stand)

Massive three-tier stand on the west side. Tallest of the four stands; named after Newcastle legend Sir Bobby Robson in 2009.

  • Leazes End

Three-tier stand at the north. Originally the home of Newcastle's most vocal support before redevelopment. Now houses the away allocation in the lower tier corner.

  • East Stand

Two-tier stand opposite the Milburn. Houses the directors' box and dressing rooms.

  • Gallowgate End

Two-tier stand at the south. Now the heart of Newcastle's vocal home support — "Toon Army" gathered behind the goal.
