Seating

Where to sit at The City Ground

  • Trent End

The two-tier home end sits next to the River Trent and is the ground's visual signature. Central lower blocks place you among the flags and the famous pre-match rendition of Mull of Kintyre.

  • Brian Clough Stand

The large two-tier stand along the east touchline. Central upper seats give a strong tactical view, while the lower rows bring you closer to the pitch and the action along the touchline.

  • Peter Taylor Stand

The compact main stand on the west side houses the tunnel and the premium areas. Its low roof and seats close to the pitch keep the City Ground's old-school character.

  • John Robertson Stand

The former Bridgford Stand, renamed in 2026 after John Robertson and recognisable by its unusual sloping roof, stands behind the north goal. Away fans use its lower tier, including the safe-standing Block W, while home safe standing is spread across other upper and lower blocks.

Background

Nottingham Forest club history

Nottingham Forest are the club with two stars above the badge: champions of England once and champions of Europe twice. Their red stands beside the Trent remain inseparable from Brian Clough's extraordinary achievement.

Clough, Taylor and the return to the big time

Founded in 1865, Forest are among the oldest professional clubs in the world. Their influence reached well beyond their own results: they famously donated a set of red shirts to the newly formed Arsenal, and they won their first FA Cup in 1898.

Brian Clough and Peter Taylor transformed a second-tier club after arriving in 1975. Forest won promotion, took the 1977/78 league title at the first attempt, lifted two League Cups and won back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980. It was an unmatched rise, and it means the club has been champion of Europe more often than champion of England.

Relegation in 1999 started a 23-year absence from the top flight that included three seasons in League One. Steve Cooper's side came back through the 2022 play-offs, and with the City Ground roaring again, Forest moved from relegation battles toward the European places.

Honours. 2 European Cups (1979, 1980) · League champions (1978) · 2 FA Cups · 4 League Cups · UEFA Super Cup (1979).

The ground. The City Ground has stood on the banks of the River Trent since 1898, within sight of Notts County's Meadow Lane on the other side of the water. Upgrades in 2024 lifted capacity past 30,000. The Trent End provides the home spectacle, while visiting fans are housed in the lower tier of the John Robertson Stand, the former Bridgford Stand.

Biggest rivalries

  • Derby County. The East Midlands derby is Forest's defining rivalry, and the clubs play for the Brian Clough Trophy in honour of the manager who led both.
  • Leicester City. A regional East Midlands rivalry that carries extra weight whenever the clubs share a division or meet in a cup tie.
  • Liverpool. A rivalry born in the late 1970s, when Clough's Forest knocked Liverpool off their perch at home and in Europe. Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest tickets →

Seating at The City Ground

The Trent End is Forest's two-tier home end beside the river. The Brian Clough Stand runs along the east touchline, the compact Peter Taylor Stand faces it, and the John Robertson Stand (the Bridgford Stand until 2026), with its distinctive sloping roof, sits behind the north goal.

Away fans occupy the lower John Robertson Stand, including safe-standing Block W. The Trent End is the pick for atmosphere, while central seats in the Brian Clough upper tier offer the clearest tactical overview.
