Where to sit at Elland Road
North Stand
Known to generations of supporters as the Kop, the North Stand sits behind the goal and is one of the two loudest parts of Elland Road. Its upper tier includes rail-seating blocks designed for fans who want to stand and sing for the full ninety minutes.
South Stand
The smaller home end behind the opposite goal matches the North Stand for noise, and the singing rarely stops. It suits supporters who want to be part of the atmosphere, but families and anyone hoping to stay seated throughout will be more comfortable elsewhere.
East Stand
Elland Road's biggest stand runs along the east touchline and includes the family area. The upper tier gives a sweeping view of the whole pitch, but it is very high and steep, so it is not ideal for supporters with a fear of heights or limited mobility.
John Charles West Stand
Named after the club's great Welsh centre-forward, the main stand houses the dugouts and offers a traditional, close side-on view of the action. Away supporters are placed at its south end, in the upper and lower tiers depending on the size of the allocation.

Leeds United club history
Leeds United are the giants of a one-club city: three-time champions of England, the dominant side of the Don Revie era and the owners of one of the most intense home atmospheres in the country.

From Revie's dynasty to the Premier League return
Leeds United were formed in 1919, after Leeds City were expelled from the Football League. The club was transformed under Don Revie from 1961, when a hard-edged but technically brilliant side climbed out of the second tier and went on to win two league titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups.
Revie's team also suffered painful near misses, the 1975 European Cup final among them. Howard Wilkinson took Leeds back to the top in 1991/92, making them the last champions of the old First Division, and a young side reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2001.
The spending behind that European run led to administration and a drop to League One. Marcelo Bielsa ended a 16-year exile from the top flight in 2020, and another Championship title in 2024/25 brought Leeds back to the Premier League, with Elland Road once again among the loudest grounds in the division.

The ground. Football has been played at Elland Road since 1897, and it has been Leeds United's home since the club was formed in 1919. All four stands sit close to the pitch, with the North and South ends generating most of the noise. For 2026/27, some access routes are adjusted around the West Stand redevelopment work.
Biggest rivalries
- Manchester United. The Roses rivalry is Leeds' biggest fixture, carrying the old Yorkshire-Lancashire divide into modern football. Manchester United vs Leeds United tickets →
- Chelsea. A bitter rivalry forged in the bruising 1970 FA Cup final and reignited every time the clubs meet. Chelsea vs Leeds United tickets →
- Huddersfield Town. The closest major West Yorkshire derby, although long spells in different divisions have made meetings rare in recent years.
Getting to Elland Road
Leeds · 37,633 capacity · Opened 1897
Elland Road has been home to Leeds United since the club was founded in 1919. With four stands built tight to the pitch, it remains one of the most recognisable and atmospheric settings in English football.
Public transport: Dedicated matchday buses run from Leeds city centre and from Leeds railway station, which makes the trip of about two miles south-west of the centre easy without a car.
Away fans: Visiting supporters are housed at the south end of the John Charles West Stand, in the upper and lower tiers depending on the allocation.

Seating at Elland Road
Elland Road's North and South stands behind the goals are the vocal heart of the ground, with rail seating in the North Stand upper tier. The East Stand is the largest part of the stadium and includes family seating, although its upper tier is unusually high. The John Charles West Stand is the traditional main stand, next to the dugouts.
Away fans sit at the south end of the West Stand. Central seats in the West and East stands offer the best tactical view, while the two ends deliver the atmosphere. Visitors who are uncomfortable with heights or long flights of stairs should avoid the East Stand upper tier.
