History
About Anfield
Anfield opened in 1884 and was originally the home of Everton FC, who played there until 1892. After a rent dispute, Everton moved across Stanley Park to Goodison Park, and John Houlding founded Liverpool FC at Anfield in March 1892. The Kop terrace was built in 1906, named after a hill in South Africa where many Liverpudlians had died in the Boer War. The Anfield Road expansion completed in 2023 lifted capacity from 53,394 to 61,276. Liverpool's largest ever capacity.
Seating layout
Anfield seating plan & capacity
Anfield's seating bowl is asymmetric. The four stands all differ in height and design, reflecting decades of staggered redevelopment. The Kop's height limits the natural light reaching the pitch surface, which is why the floodlights at Anfield are unusually high-power.
The Kop
Single-tier stand behind the goal at the Anfield Road end of the ground. Holds approximately 12,390 supporters and is the most iconic terrace in English football. The Kop is the spiritual home of Liverpool's most vocal support.
Main Stand
Three-tier stand opposite the Kop. Redeveloped in 2016 to add 8,500 seats, it includes hospitality and the players' tunnel.
Anfield Road End
Behind the opposite goal. Expanded 2023 to a two-tier stand holding around 15,800, including the away allocation of 3,200.
Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand
Side stand opposite the Main Stand, single-tier. Renamed from Centenary Stand in 2017 to honour the former player and manager.
