Seating

Where to sit at Coventry Building Society Arena

  • South Stand

The visiting end: away fans usually take blocks 6–9 at the western end, with their own turnstiles and concourse, and the allocation can grow to the whole stand for big games. Blocks 6 and 7 are safe standing. Home safe standing sits at the other end of the stand, in blocks 11–14 toward the south-east corner — the loudest home section.

  • East Stand

The single-tier touchline stand opposite the dugouts, with a good balance of height and proximity. Central blocks around 19–21 give the most even side-on view; seats toward the corners usually cost less.

  • North Stand

Behind the north goal and home to the club's family section. It suits groups looking for a calmer setting than the safe-standing blocks in the south-east corner.

  • West Stand

The main stand and the only one with two tiers — the tunnel and dugouts are on this side, and the upper tier is hospitality. Lower blocks B–E around halfway give the cleanest tactical view; the corners offer a cheaper side-on angle.

Background

Coventry City club history

Coventry City are the Sky Blues — 1987 FA Cup winners whose journey through relegation, administration and years away from their own city ended with the 2026 Championship title and a return to the Premier League after 25 seasons.

Years away before the 2026 Premier League return

Workers at the Singer bicycle factory founded Singers FC in 1883; the club adopted the Coventry City name in 1898. Jimmy Hill transformed the identity in the 1960s, introducing the all-sky-blue kit and leading a climb from the third tier to the First Division in 1967.

Coventry stayed in the top flight for 34 consecutive seasons and became founding Premier League members. Their defining afternoon was the 1987 FA Cup final, when Keith Houchen's diving header helped beat Tottenham 3-2 after extra time and brought the club its first major trophy.

Relegation in 2001 began a painful decline through administration, stadium disputes and home spells in Northampton and Birmingham. The recovery started with the 2017 EFL Trophy and 2018 League Two play-off win, and Mark Robins took the club back to the Championship as League One champions in 2020. Frank Lampard, appointed in 2024, finished the job: Coventry won the 2025/26 Championship and returned to the Premier League in 2026.

The ground. Coventry Building Society Arena opened in 2005 as the Ricoh Arena and holds 32,609 for football. Ownership disputes and groundshares complicated its history with the club, but Coventry City bought the arena in August 2025 and it is again their settled home; visiting supporters use the western end of the South Stand.

Biggest rivalries

  • Leicester City. The M69 derby is Coventry's clearest regional rivalry, linking two cities less than 25 miles apart.
  • Aston Villa. A West Midlands top-flight rivalry remembered from Coventry's long First Division and early Premier League stay. Aston Villa vs Coventry City tickets →
  • Sunderland. A rivalry rooted in the disputed end of the 1976/77 relegation battle and renewed when Sunderland beat Coventry in the 2025 Championship play-off semi-final. Coventry City vs Sunderland tickets →
