History

About Goodison Park

Goodison Park was Everton's home from 1892 to 2025. One of the oldest purpose-built football grounds in the world. After a rent dispute at Anfield (then their ground), Everton moved across Stanley Park and built a new ground designed by Archibald Leitch. Goodison hosted World Cup matches in 1966 and was the first English ground to have all four sides as multi-tier covered stands. Everton moved to Hill Dickinson Stadium (the new Bramley-Moore Dock waterfront ground) in 2025.

Seating layout

Goodison Park seating plan & capacity

Goodison's seating bowl was famously asymmetric. The Park End was a single tier, while the other three stands were two or three tiers. The classic Leitch "criss-cross" steel balcony detail on the Bullens Road and Main Stand is one of the most photographed features in English football architecture.

  • Howard Kendall Gwladys Street Stand

Behind the north goal. Named after the great Everton manager. Heart of Everton's vocal home support; the original "Z-cars" walk-out song was sung here.

  • Sir Philip Carter Park Stand (Park End)

Behind the south goal, opposite Gwladys Street. Single-tier stand built in 1994, the most modern part of the ground.

  • Bullens Road Stand

Side stand on the east, three tiers, characteristic Archibald Leitch criss-cross balcony detail.

  • Main Stand (Wilford Owen Stand)

Side stand opposite Bullens Road. Houses the directors' box and dressing rooms.
