About
Football in Lisbon
Lisbon is home to two of Portugal's three biggest football clubs. Sport Lisboa e Benfica, founded in 1904 and record winners of the Portuguese league with 38 titles, play at the Estádio da Luz, which opened in 2003 and has held about 68,000 since a renovation finished in July 2025. Sporting Clube de Portugal, founded in 1906 and champions 21 times, play at the Estádio José Alvalade, which opened the same year and holds about 52,000. Both grounds were built for Euro 2004: the Luz staged the final and Alvalade a semi-final. The Luz also hosted the 2014 Champions League final and the 2020 final eight. The two clubs have met in the Derby de Lisboa since 1907. For the 2026–27 Primeira Liga, which runs from 7 August 2026 to 16 May 2027, Lisbon-area clubs also include Estrela da Amadora, Alverca and Estoril. Away from football, the MEO Arena in Parque das Nações is the main indoor arena at about 20,000, the Campo Pequeno handles mid-sized concerts, and the Luz also hosts stadium concerts.

Football in Lisbon: two giants, one derby
Benfica are the club of the Estádio da Luz in the north-west of the city. Founded in 1904, they hold the record for Portuguese league titles with 38, and the stadium, rebuilt for Euro 2004 and opened on 25 October 2003, was expanded again to about 68,100 in July 2025. Sporting, founded in 1906 and champions 21 times, play at the Estádio José Alvalade, opened on 6 August 2003 and holding about 52,000, beside Campo Grande.
The Derby de Lisboa has been played since 1907 and is generally described as the most important derby in Portuguese football. Beyond the two giants, Estrela da Amadora (Estádio José Gomes, Amadora), Alverca (Alverca do Ribatejo) and Estoril (Estádio António Coimbra da Mota) are Lisbon-area clubs in the 2026–27 Primeira Liga; Casa Pia, a Lisbon club, are playing their home games at Rio Maior this season because their own Estádio Pina Manique does not meet league standards.
The music venues
The MEO Arena in Parque das Nações, built for Expo '98 and opened in 1998, is the city's main indoor arena at about 20,000 for concerts. Its name has changed several times: Pavilhão Atlântico until 2013, MEO Arena, Altice Arena from 2017, and MEO Arena again since February 2024. The Campo Pequeno, a bullring that opened in 1892 and now has a removable cover, holds about 10,000 for concerts and is on the Yellow Line.
Stadium shows use the Estádio da Luz and Alvalade, and the summer festivals take place in parks: MEO Kalorama in the Parque da Bela Vista, whose fifth edition was on 28 to 30 August 2026. Whatever from these venues has tickets on sale today appears in the feed at the top of this page.
Lisbon on the world stage
Lisbon has staged some of the biggest European football occasions of the century. The Estádio da Luz hosted the Euro 2004 final, where Greece beat Portugal 1–0, and the 2014 Champions League final, won by Real Madrid 4–1 after extra time against Atlético. In 2020 the Champions League finished in the city as a final-eight tournament behind closed doors, with Bayern Munich winning the final at the Luz.
Domestic cup football has its own home at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, opened in 1944. It has hosted the Taça de Portugal final since 1946; in 2026 Torreense beat Sporting 2–1 after extra time there before 35,000 on 24 May.
What we list today — and what we don't
Anyseats lists Benfica and Sporting home matches when sellers list them, among them Benfica v Famalicão on 30 November 2026 and Sporting v Moreirense on 7 November 2026, plus Sporting v Manchester United in the Champions League on 25 November 2026. In music we currently list Bryan Adams at the MEO Arena on 20 November 2026, Simple Minds at the Campo Pequeno on 6 April 2027, Simply Red at the MEO Arena on 16 June 2027, and stadium dates at the Estádio da Luz. Local rivalries
Lisbon derbies
Derby de Lisboa
Benfica vs Sporting CP, first played on 1 December 1907 in the Campeonato de Lisboa, when Sporting won 2–1. The rivalry is generally dated to 1907, when eight Benfica players moved to Sporting. In 2026–27 Benfica v Sporting at the Estádio da Luz is currently listed for 27 December 2026, and Sporting v Benfica at the Estádio José Alvalade for 9 May 2027; kick-off times are to be confirmed.
Match-day tips
On a Lisbon match-day
Portugal keeps Western European Time, the same clock as the UK all year, so there is no time difference: a 20:30 kick-off in Lisbon is 20:30 in London. Evening league kick-offs confirmed on our listings so far are at 20:15 and 20:30 local time, for example Sporting v Moreirense on 7 November 2026 at 20:30; other rounds are set by the league later, and the event page updates once a kick-off is confirmed. The Metro is the simplest way to reach either ground, but check the last train home as service ends around 01:00. Several of the Primeira Liga's away fixtures involving Lisbon clubs are in Madeira and the Azores, so check the ground listed on the event page before booking travel. Tickets are delivered by the seller before the event; your order page shows how and when.

Benfica and Sporting also play in European competition on midweek nights, with Sporting v Manchester United in the Champions League listed at the Estádio José Alvalade on 25 November 2026. The Taça de Portugal final is played at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras in May; the 2026 final was on 24 May.
