History

About Wembley Stadium

The stadium was built between 2002 and 2007 on the site of the original Wembley Stadium, which stood from 1923 until 2000. Multiplex built it to a design by Foster and Partners and HOK Sport (now Populous) at a cost of £798 million, after delays that pushed the opening back from 2006. It was handed over to the FA on 9 March 2007 and officially opened with the FA Cup final on 19 May 2007. Since 2014 it has carried the sponsor name Wembley Stadium connected by EE, a deal renewed in 2025 to run to 2028.
