Valencia — Spain's third-largest city with around 800,000 residents at the mouth of the Turia river on the Mediterranean coast — has been at the heart of Spanish football since the 1920s. Valencia CF, founded in 1919, play at the 49,500-capacity Mestalla in the Pla del Real district, opened in 1923 and one of La Liga's oldest top-flight grounds; the long-running Nou Mestalla project on the city's western edge has been on hold for more than a decade. Los Che are six-time La Liga champions, eight-time Copa del Rey winners, lifted the UEFA Cup in 2004 and reached back-to-back Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001. Cross-city rivals Levante UD — Spain's oldest registered football club, dating to 1909 — play at the 25,354-capacity Estadi Ciutat de València in the northern Orriols district. Beyond football, the Roig Arena (around 18,600) opened in 2025 as the city's flagship indoor venue, and the annual Las Fallas festival each March — UNESCO-listed, with hundreds of monumental papier-mâché sculptures burned across the city centre — draws several million visitors. Valencia's high-speed AVE service connects to Madrid in around ninety minutes.

The city is also the home of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix history and one of the largest Mediterranean ports in Europe.

Valencia CF play at the Mestalla — capacity 49,430, opened in 1923 and one of the oldest top-flight stadiums in Spain. The ground sits on Avenida de Suecia in the eastern edge of the city centre and is reached by metro line 5 to Aragón or by tram. The long-stalled Nou Mestalla project on the northern edge of the city — originally planned for completion in 2009 but paused after the financial crisis — has resumed under new ownership and is targeted for late-decade completion at around 70,000 capacity.

The Derbi de la Comunitat (Derbi Valenciano) against Levante UD — Valencia's smaller cross-city rivals, traditionally based in the Cabanyal fishing district — is the local derby when both clubs share a division. Valencia's Curva Mario Kempes (named for the 1978 World Cup-winning Argentine striker who played for the club) and the historical pioneer reputation in Spanish football (Valencia were one of the founder members of La Liga in 1929) underpin the matchday identity. The Mestalla's vertical north stand — almost entirely walls of standing supporters — is among the loudest in La Liga.

Valencia also hosts the Las Fallas festival across mid-March — UNESCO-recognised since 2016, with hundreds of giant sculpted figures (fallas) erected and ceremonially burned across the city in a five-day pyrotechnic and street-party programme drawing around two million visitors. The Roig Arena — opened 2025, capacity around 18,000 — is one of Europe's newest indoor venues and hosts arena tours, EuroLeague basketball (Valencia Basket) and major MMA / boxing nights. The Valencia Marathon every December has grown into one of the world's fastest marathon routes.
