History
About Estadio de Mestalla
Mestalla opened on 20 May 1923 with a friendly between Valencia and Levante, and takes its name from the Mestalla irrigation channel. During the Spanish Civil War it was used as a concentration camp and storage warehouse. A 1950s rebuild took capacity to 60,000, and the October 1957 Turia flood caused serious damage. It was called Estadio Luis Casanova from 1969 to 1994 before the original name was restored.
