About
Football in Berlin
Berlin has two football clubs and one of Europe's best-known stadiums. 1. FC Union Berlin, founded in 1966, play in the Bundesliga at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in Köpenick, which holds 22,012, almost all of it standing, and was rebuilt between 2008 and 2013 with the help of volunteer supporters. Hertha BSC, founded in 1892, are in the 2. Bundesliga for 2026–27 and play at the Olympiastadion in Westend, built for the 1936 Olympic Games, which holds about 74,000. The Olympiastadion staged the 2006 World Cup final and the Euro 2024 final and has hosted the DFB-Pokal final every year since 1985. The Berlin derby between Hertha and Union was first played as a competitive match in 2010, but because the two are in different divisions this season there is no league meeting. For music, the Uber Arena in Friedrichshain, which opened in 2008 and holds up to 17,000 for concerts, takes the big arena tours; the Waldbühne beside the Olympiastadion, an open-air stage for more than 22,000, takes the summer shows; and the Olympiastadion itself has U2 listed for 30 June 2027.

Football in Berlin: Union, Hertha and the Olympiastadion
Union Berlin are the club of the east. Founded in 1966 in East Berlin, they play at the Alte Försterei, a ground at the edge of the Wuhlheide forest that opened in 1920 and was rebuilt between 2008 and 2013 with unpaid help from more than 2,000 supporters. They played their first Bundesliga season in 2019–20 and qualified for the Champions League group stage in 2023–24. Of its 22,012 places, 18,395 are standing and 3,617 are seats.
Hertha BSC, founded in 1892, play at the Olympiastadion, a ground built for the 1936 Olympics that was rebuilt for the 2006 World Cup, with the pitch lowered by 2.65 m and the roof extended. Hertha have played there since 1963, with a break in the late 1980s. They are in the 2. Bundesliga in 2026–27, with 17 home matches at the Olympiastadion; the national team and the DFB-Pokal final each May also play there.
The music venues
The Uber Arena in Friedrichshain opened in 2008 as the O2 World, became the Mercedes-Benz Arena in 2015 and took its current name in March 2024. It holds up to 17,000 for concerts and is also home to Alba Berlin and the Eisbären Berlin. Next to it, the Uber Eats Music Hall (formerly the Verti Music Hall) opened in 2018 and holds 4,500. The Max-Schmeling-Halle, which opened in Prenzlauer Berg in 1996, holds between about 8,900 and 12,000 depending on the event.
In summer the shows move outdoors: the Waldbühne beside the Olympiastadion, built in 1936 and holding more than 22,000, and the courtyard of the Zitadelle Spandau, which has hosted open-air concerts since 2005. For the largest tours the Olympiastadion itself is used. At the time of writing, our feed lists the Uber Arena, the Waldbühne, the Max-Schmeling-Halle, the Zitadelle Spandau and others; each event page shows the venue and date.
A stadium with an Olympic past
The Olympiastadion opened on 1 August 1936 for the Berlin Olympics, and the Waldbühne opened the next day. The stadium was reconfigured in 1974 and rebuilt for the 2006 World Cup between 2000 and 2004. It staged the 2006 World Cup final, in which Italy beat France on penalties, and the Euro 2024 final, which Spain won 2–1 against England. It has also been the home of the DFB-Pokal final every year since 1985.
On the other side of the city, the Alte Försterei is a different kind of landmark: a ground that opened in 1920 and that Union's own supporters helped to rebuild. Every December, thousands gather there to sing carols at the Weihnachtssingen, which began in 2003 with 89 fans.
What we list today — and what we don't
Anyseats currently lists Union Berlin home matches at the Alte Försterei, Germany v Netherlands at the Olympiastadion on 16 November 2026, U2 at the Olympiastadion on 30 June 2027, and concerts at the Uber Arena, Waldbühne, Max-Schmeling-Halle and Zitadelle Spandau, among them Take That and Andrea Bocelli at the Waldbühne in 2027. Every price shown includes fees: the number you see is the number you pay.
We do not currently list Hertha BSC home matches at the Olympiastadion, and we do not sell Berlin Philharmonic subscriptions. The Philharmonie, designed by Hans Scharoun and opened in 1963, has a Great Hall of 2,440 seats and sells most of them through its own box office, so go to the venue first for those.
Local rivalries
Berlin derbies
Berlin derby (Berliner Derby)
Hertha BSC against 1. FC Union Berlin. The first competitive meeting was in the 2. Bundesliga: Union 1–1 Hertha at the Alte Försterei on 17 September 2010, in front of 18,432. Their first Bundesliga meeting came on 2 November 2019, when Union won 1–0 at home. Hertha were relegated from the Bundesliga after 2022–23 and are in the 2. Bundesliga in 2026–27, so there is no league derby this season.
Match-day tips
On a Berlin match-day
Germany is on Central European Time, one hour ahead of the UK all year, so a 20:30 kick-off in Berlin is 19:30 in London. Hertha's 2. Bundesliga season opened on a Friday at 20:30, and the Olympiastadion lists Hertha v Wolfsburg for 7 November 2026 at 20:30 and Hertha v Karlsruhe for 28 November 2026 at 13:00, so Berlin kick-off times vary a lot; the final matchday of the Bundesliga on 22 May 2027 has all nine matches kicking off together at 15:30. The event page shows the time once the league has confirmed it. The Alte Försterei is almost entirely standing and is the more compact of the two grounds; the Olympiastadion is large enough that the stadium itself advises public transport on event days. Tickets are delivered by the seller before the event; your order page shows how and when.

The DFB-Pokal final is played at the Olympiastadion each May; the 2027 final is on 29 May 2027, with an 8 pm kick-off according to Berlin's tourism site.
