Stuttgart — capital of Baden-Württemberg, with around 630,000 residents in the city proper and 2.8 million across the wider region — is the historical heart of the German automotive industry, headquartering both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. VfB Stuttgart, founded in 1893, play at the 60,449-capacity MHPArena (formerly the Mercedes-Benz Arena and the Neckarstadion before that) on the banks of the Neckar in the Bad Cannstatt district. The ground hosted matches at the 1974 and 2006 World Cups and the 2024 European Championship, and is shared with periodic Germany national-team fixtures. VfB are five-time German champions and lifted the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1958, with their most recent Bundesliga title in 2006–07 and a remarkable second-place finish in 2023–24 returning the club to Champions League football. The neighbouring Porsche-Arena (7,500) hosts ATP and concert tours, while the Schleyerhalle (15,500) covers the city's biggest indoor music acts. The annual Cannstatter Volksfest each autumn — Germany's second-largest beer festival after Munich's Oktoberfest — takes place on the Wasen field next door to the stadium. The S-Bahn S1 and U-Bahn U11 reach NeckarPark from the central Hauptbahnhof in around twelve minutes.

VfB Stuttgart play at the MHPArena (formerly Mercedes-Benz Arena, formerly Neckarstadion and Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion) in the Bad Cannstatt district — capacity 60,449, used for the 1974 and 2006 World Cups and one of the ten venues for Euro 2024. The ground is reached by S-Bahn S1 to NeckarPark (Mercedes-Benz) station, immediately adjacent to the stadium and the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The Porsche-Arena and Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle indoor venues sit in the same NeckarPark complex.

Stuttgart's matchday culture is built around the Cannstatter Kurve — the south stand behind the goal — and the historically blue-collar industrial supporter base of the wider Stuttgart region (Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Bosch all have major plants in or near the city). The biggest fixtures are the southern derby against Karlsruher SC (when Karlsruhe are in the top flight) and the heavyweight Bundesliga matches against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. VfB's youth academy has produced Mario Gómez, Sami Khedira, Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rüdiger and Timo Werner.

Stuttgart hosts the Cannstatter Volksfest (the city's autumn beer festival, second only to Munich's Oktoberfest in scale) for three weeks in late September-early October on the Wasen festival ground, immediately adjacent to the football stadium. The Stuttgart Christmas Market in early December — among Europe's largest, with around 300 stalls across the city's central squares — and the Frühlingsfest in spring round out the year. The Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle hosts the year-round programme of arena tours and the Mercedes Cup ATP tennis tournament in mid-June at the TC Weissenhof. The MercedesCup and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix WTA event in late April are both regular fixtures on the international tennis circuit.
