History

About Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel

Sparta moved to the ground in the Spangen district in October 1916. The first match was against Willem II on 15 October 1916. The original design was by J.H. de Roos and W.F. Overeijnder, and its two-towered pavilion gave the ground the nickname Het Kasteel (The Castle). In 1998–99 Zwarts & Jansma almost completely rebuilt the ground and turned the pitch 90 degrees, keeping only the castle building and its Willem Coenraad Brouwer ceramics. The pitch was artificial from 2014 and returned to natural grass in 2022.

Bus 38 stops next to the stadium.

Drive

Leave the A20 at exit 12 (Spaanse Polder) and take the Horvathweg; the stadium is on the right.

Parking

On matchdays the stadium car parks are open only to sponsors with a parking card. Other visitors are advised to park on the Spaanse Polder industrial estate.
