History
About The Hawthorns
The Hawthorns opened on 3 September 1900 after four months of building, the first Football League ground built in the 20th century; its first match was a 1–1 draw with Derby County. Albion bought the freehold in 1913. After Hillsborough the Birmingham Road and Smethwick End terraces were replaced with stands, completed in 1995, and the East Stand replaced the old Rainbow Stand for 2001/02. Safe standing was installed in the upper Smethwick End and Millennium Corner for 2025/26.
