History
About Stadion Galgenwaard
The first Galgenwaard stadium opened on 21 May 1936 and was used by Hercules and DOS, as well as for cycling, athletics and greyhound racing. FC Utrecht, formed in 1970 from the professional sections of DOS, Elinkwijk and Velox, made it their home. After the last match in the old ground against PSV in April 1981, a new stadium, Nieuw Galgenwaard, opened in August 1982 with dry moats around the pitch instead of fences. It was rebuilt stand by stand from 2001, the new main stand moving to the north side, and has been called Stadion Galgenwaard since 1 January 2002.
