History
About Stadio Ettore Giardiniero – Via del Mare
The stadium opened in 1966 to replace the Stadio Carlo Pranzo, and Lecce beat Taranto 1–0 in the first match between Italian sides on 2 October 1966. After Lecce’s first promotion to Serie A in 1985 it was partly rebuilt and enlarged to about 55,000, later reduced to 40,670 so every seat could be numbered. It was named after former mayor Ettore Giardiniero in 2002. A renovation that includes a full roof began in August 2025, with matches continuing during the work.
