Home of AS Roma and Lazio since 1953

One stadium, two clubs: AS Roma and Lazio have both played their home matches here since 1953, and the Rome derby is played at the same ground with the home side changing. The stadium belongs to Sport e Salute, the state company that runs Italy's national sports facilities; AS Roma renewed its agreement to use it in 2025, until the 2027/28 season. Italy's national football and rugby union teams also play here.

History

About Stadio Olimpico

The Stadio Olimpico sits in the Foro Italico sports complex on the west bank of the Tiber, below Monte Mario. Work on the site began in 1928 as the Stadio dei Cipressi; the stadium that stands today opened on 17 May 1953 with Italy against Hungary, a 3–0 win for the visitors, and was known in its first years as the Stadio dei Centomila, the stadium of the hundred thousand. It took its present name as the main stadium of the 1960 Summer Olympics, which opened there on 25 August 1960. It was rebuilt and roofed for the 1990 World Cup, whose final West Germany won 1–0 against Argentina on 8 July 1990, and renovated again in 2007–08, when about 5,000 seats came out and capacity settled at 70,634. It has staged the final of Euro 1968, four European Cup and Champions League finals (1977, 1984, 1996 and 2009) and the opening match of Euro 2020, played in 2021.

Seating layout

Stadio Olimpico seating plan & capacity

The Olimpico is a large oval with a running track between the stands and the pitch, so seats are further from play than at a purpose-built football ground; the side stands give the most complete view. Each club's most vocal support stands in its own curva: Roma's in the Curva Sud, Lazio's in the Curva Nord. The sector printed on the ticket is the one you enter by.

  • Curva Sud

Behind the south goal. The home end of AS Roma's support, filled largely by season-ticket holders.

  • Curva Nord

Behind the north goal. The home end of Lazio's support.

  • Tribuna Monte Mario

The west side stand, facing Monte Mario.

  • Tribuna Tevere

The east side stand, on the river (Tevere) side of the ground.

  • Distinti

The sections that join each curva to the side stands, sold as separate sectors (for example Distinti Nord Est). Visiting supporters are placed in a Distinti sector.
