History
About Stadio Luigi Ferraris
The ground in the Marassi district opened on 22 January 1911 with Genoa against Internazionale, and was named after Luigi Ferraris, a former Genoa captain killed in the First World War, on 1 January 1933. It hosted Spain’s 3–1 win over Brazil at the 1934 World Cup. Between 1987 and 1989 it was rebuilt section by section to a design by Vittorio Gregotti and Augusto Cagnardi, so that matches could continue, and it became fully roofed for the 1990 World Cup. A 2019 upper-tier renovation set the current capacity of 33,205.
