History
About Stade Louis II
The present Stade Louis II was built between 1981 and 1984 on land reclaimed from the sea in the Fontvieille district, replacing an earlier stadium of the same name that opened in 1939. Prince Rainier III inaugurated it on 25 January 1985. It is a multi-sport complex: an Olympic swimming pool and the Salle Gaston Médecin indoor hall sit under the stands, and the pitch lies on the roof of a car park. It staged the UEFA Super Cup in 1986 and every year from 1998 to 2012, and athletics at the Games of the Small States of Europe in 1987 and 2007.
