History

About RCDE Stadium

Espanyol bought the land on the boundary of Cornellà de Llobregat and El Prat de Llobregat in 2002, after leaving Sarrià in 1997 and playing at the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc in the meantime. The first stone was laid on 9 May 2003, but building work ran from November 2005 to June 2009. The stadium opened on 2 August 2009 with a 3–0 friendly win over Liverpool, and Real Madrid won the first official match 3–0 on 12 September 2009. It was named Cornellà-El Prat until 2014, then Power8 Stadium, RCDE Stadium, Stage Front Stadium (2023–2024), and RCDE Stadium again from 2024.
