History

About Puskás Aréna

The arena stands on the site of the Ferenc Puskás Stadium (the former Népstadion), whose demolition was completed in October 2016. It was built between 2017 and 2019 to a design by György Skardelli and opened on 15 November 2019 with Hungary’s 2–1 defeat by Uruguay. It staged four matches at Euro 2020 in June 2021 and has hosted the Hungarian Cup final since 2020. Sevilla beat Roma on penalties in the 2023 Europa League final there, and Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the 2026 Champions League final.
