History

About Groupama Aréna

The arena was built on the site of the Albert Flórián Stadion, Ferencváros’s home on Üllői út since 1911, after the club presented plans in April 2012. Demolition and construction began on 28 March 2013, with the new ground turned 90 degrees. It cost about HUF 14.7 billion, paid for by the state. It opened on 10 August 2014 with a 2–1 friendly defeat to Chelsea, and the naming rights went to the insurer Groupama. Hungary played 27 home matches there between 2014 and 2019, until the Puskás Aréna opened.
