History

About Euroborg

The Euroborg was planned in the late 1990s to replace the Oosterparkstadion. It was built in 2004–05 to a design by Wiel Arets, on a former power-station site in the south-east of the city. A software fault in concrete production delayed the opening by about six months. The stadium cost €45.5 million. FC Groningen beat sc Heerenveen 2–0 in the official opening on 13 January 2006, and Arjen Robben performed the opening. Sponsors named it NoordLease Stadion (2016–2018) and Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadion (2018–2021), and it went back to Euroborg in 2021.
