History

About Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero

The stadium opened on 8 September 1976, replacing the Campo de Altabix, with a 3–3 draw between Elche and Mexico. Designed by Juan Boix Matarredona, it was called the Nuevo Estadio del Elche C.F. until 1988, when it was renamed after the late club president Manuel Martínez Valero. It hosted three group matches at the 1982 World Cup. A 2013 refit rebuilt the main façade, added VIP boxes and press cabins and reduced capacity, and an external renovation began in March 2025, with completion expected before the 2026–27 season.
