History

About De Grolsch Veste

The stadium opened as the Arke Stadion on 10 May 1998, when FC Twente beat PSV 3–0, replacing Stadion Het Diekman. A second tier over one long side and one end, built from April 2007, raised capacity from 13,250 to 24,200, and the ground reopened as De Grolsch Veste for a 1–1 draw with NEC on 13 September 2008. A further expansion to 30,000 was completed in 2011; during that work, on 7 July 2011, part of the new roof collapsed, killing two workers. The club has published plans to complete a second tier over the Diekman stand, which could raise capacity to 40,000–44,000.
