History
About Allwyn Arena
The stadium stands on the site of the Nikos Goumas Stadium, AEK’s home from 1930, in Nea Filadelfeia, an area settled by refugees from Asia Minor after 1922. Plans for a new ground called Agia Sophia were revived by Dimitris Melissanidis in 2013, and after court challenges and environmental approvals, earthworks began on 28 July 2017. The stadium opened on 30 September 2022, and AEK beat Ionikos 4–1 in the first match three days later. It was named OPAP Arena under a naming deal from 2022 and became Allwyn Arena in early 2026 after OPAP rebranded as Allwyn.
