Lyon's biggest historical fixture is Le Choc des Olympiques against Olympique de Marseille — a clash of identity between the bourgeois, gastronomic east and the working-class, Mediterranean south. OL Féminin — the women's side — has won the UEFA Women's Champions League eight times, more than any other club, with multiple finals played at the Groupama Stadium itself.

Beyond football, Lyon hosts the Nuits de Fourvière summer festival (June-July) at the 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheatre on Fourvière hill, the Fête des Lumières across four nights every December (a city-wide light festival drawing two-to-three million visitors), and regular ATP and concert events at the LDLC Arena adjacent to the Groupama Stadium. The stadium itself runs a year-round programme of arena tours alongside the Ligue 1 and European fixture calendar.
