History
About Volksparkstadion
The original Volksparkstadion opened on 12 July 1953 on the site of the Bahrenfelder Stadion, built partly from wartime rubble and holding up to 75,000. Hamburger SV moved in during 1963 and won Bundesliga titles there in 1979, 1982 and 1983. From 1998 it was rebuilt as a football-only stadium with the pitch rotated 90 degrees, and the new ground was inaugurated on 2 September 2000. Sponsor names ran from 2001 to 2015 (AOL Arena, HSH Nordbank Arena, Imtech Arena) before the original name returned.
