History

About Tórsvøllur

Tórsvøllur was built in 1999 in the Gundadalur sports area of Tórshavn as a national stadium on which international matches could be played; before that the national team played at Svangaskarð in Toftir, and the two grounds shared home matches until 2011. It opened on 9 July 1999 with a friendly against Aalborg BK. A stand with an office building and a small seating section behind one goal followed in 2009, floodlights were first used against Italy on 2 September 2011, and the grass was replaced by artificial turf in 2012. A new end stand replaced a temporary structure in 2014, and a full renovation finished in 2021 with a new west stand of 1,730 seats.
