History

About Strawberry Arena

Plans for a new national stadium to replace Råsunda were drawn up from 2004, and the Swedish Football Association decided in 2006 to build on a new site in Solna. Construction began on 7 December 2009 and cost about SEK 2.8 billion. The arena opened as Friends Arena in October 2012, having been planned as Swedbank Arena. Its first match was on 14 November 2012, when Zlatan Ibrahimović scored all four goals as Sweden beat England 4–2 in front of 49,967. It was renamed Strawberry Arena on 12 July 2024 after the hotel group Strawberry bought the naming rights.

Spectators sit in three tiers under a retractable roof. For smaller domestic crowds the top tier can be closed off behind curtains.

• North lower tier

  Converted to terracing at supporters’ request, so it can be used for standing at domestic matches and returns to seating for all-seated fixtures.

How to get to Strawberry Arena

Strawberry Arena is at 169 56, Stockholm, Sweden.

Metro / Tram

Take blue line 11 to Näckrosen (about 15 minutes’ walk, 1.4 km) or Solna centrum (about 20 minutes, 1.7 km). The Tvärbanan light rail also stops at Solna station.

Train

Commuter trains (pendeltåg) run to Solna station, about seven minutes from Stockholm City and four from Odenplan; the arena is about ten minutes’ walk from the station’s north exit.

Parking

Westfield Mall of Scandinavia next door has 3,700 spaces, but they fill quickly on event days; the operator suggests park-and-ride at a metro station.
