History
About Stadion Z’dežele
The stadium was built from 1999 in Opekarniška jama, a disused clay pit in the sports park below Golovec, so the west and south stands sit in the slopes of the pit. The 3,600-seat east stand opened first, with Slovenia and France under-21s drawing 0–0 on 9 September 2003, and Celje’s first league match followed on 12 September. The west stand opened in 2004, the south stand in 2005 and the north stand in February 2008, at a total cost of €16.5 million. A redevelopment of about €2 million in 2024, paid for by the municipality, the national sports ministry and UEFA HatTrick funds, raised it to UEFA Category 4.
