History
About Stade Raymond Kopa
The ground opened in 1912 as the Stade Bessonneau, built by the industrialist Julien Bessonneau. It became the municipal stadium in 1957, when the Saint-Léonard stand was built, and was named Stade Jean-Bouin from 1968. It was rebuilt in 1993 after Angers’ promotion, the Coubertin stand replaced the western bank in 2010, and the Saint-Léonard stand was rebuilt between 2019 and 2022. Angers city council voted unanimously on 27 March 2017 to rename it after Raymond Kopa, who began his career at Angers.
