History
About Planet Group Arena
The City of Ghent announced in May 2003 that KAA Gent’s new ground would be built on the former wholesale market site near the R4 and the E17/E40 interchange, under the project name Arteveldestadion. Permit disputes, objections from the neighbouring UZ Gent hospital and financing problems delayed the work; the first stone was laid on 18 September 2008. Building only moved ahead after a 2010 agreement with developer Ghelamco. The stadium opened on 17 July 2013 with a 2–0 win over VfB Stuttgart and replaced the Jules Ottenstadion, Gent’s home since 1920. It was called Ghelamco Arena until 2023 and KAA Gent Arena for the 2023–24 season, and was renamed Planet Group Arena on 2 April 2024.
