History

About Pittodrie Stadium

The site, once a dung hill for police horses, was leased from Mr Knight Erskine of Pittodrie, and the original Aberdeen club played the first game there on 2 September 1899, beating Dumbarton 7–1. The present Aberdeen FC was formed by a merger in 1903, bought the ground in 1920 and built the Main Stand in 1925. Renamed Pittodrie Stadium in 1968, it became the first all-seated stadium in Britain in 1978, when seats were fitted on the south terrace. The Beach End was replaced by the two-tier Richard Donald Stand, which opened on 1 August 1993.
