History

About Opus Arena

The project was announced on 19 April 2018 to replace NK Osijek’s Gradski vrt stadium, and building on the former marshland at Pampas in the Retfala district began in earnest in September 2019. Slow progress led the club to drop its first contractor in March 2022 and continue with Strabag. The ground opened to the public on 1 July 2023, and NK Osijek played the first match on 22 July 2023, beating Slaven Belupo 6–1 in front of 9,992. It cost about €65 million, funded by the club, the Hungarian firm Opus Global and a Hungarian government grant.
