History

About McDiarmid Park

St Johnstone had played at Muirton Park since 1924, and in December 1986 Asda agreed to buy it for a supermarket and move the club to a new ground at no cost. Local farmer Bruce McDiarmid donated 16 acres of land on the western edge of Perth and was made honorary president. Designed by Percy Johnson-Marshall and built by Miller Construction for £4.9 million, the stadium opened on 19 August 1989 with a 2–1 win over Clydebank. The official opening came on 17 October 1989 against Manchester United, managed by former St Johnstone player Alex Ferguson.

  • North Stand

End stand of about 2,000 seats, given to clubs that bring larger away followings.

  • Ormond Stand

The south stand, named after former manager Willie Ormond; it houses the matchday club shop.
