History
About Georgi Asparuhov Stadium
Built between 1960 and 1963 to a design by Lazar Parashkevanov, the stadium opened on 10 March 1963 with Levski’s 4–0 league win over Spartak Pleven; it was then called Levski Stadium and had an athletics track. It was renamed in 1990 after Georgi Asparuhov, the club forward who died in a car accident in 1971. The ground closed in 1992 for conversion to all-seater, and after years of delays caused by the economic crisis, supporters’ donations and volunteer work allowed it to reopen on 5 May 1999 without the track. A new main stand (Sector A) opened on 23 April 2016, and in 2026 the club presented a redevelopment project for the rest of the ground.
