History

About Fir Park

Fir Park opened in 1895 on wooded land belonging to Lord Hamilton of Dalzell, whose racing colours of claret and amber the club adopted. For most of the 20th century it had one main stand and terracing on the other three sides; the present main stand was begun in 1962 but stops short of the south end because a neighbour objected. After the Taylor Report the east enclosure was seated, and new stands were opened at the south end in 1993 and the north end in 1995. A hybrid grass pitch was laid between 2021 and 2022.

Seating layout

Fir Park seating plan & capacity

The ground has been all-seated since the 1990s, with one large two-tier stand at the south end and three smaller stands. The pitch slopes about six feet from east to west.

  • Phil O’Donnell Stand

The two-tier main stand on the west side, built from 1962 and renamed in January 2008 after the Motherwell captain who died on the pitch.

  • John Hunter Stand

The east enclosure, the smallest stand, where the most vocal home supporters sit, with the front row about three feet from the pitch.

  • Tommy McLean Stand

The two-tier south stand of 4,856 seats, opened in 1993, which normally houses away supporters.

  • Davie Cooper Stand

The single-tier north stand of 2,373 seats behind the goal, opened in 1995 and recommended by the club for families.
