History
About Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán
The stadium in the Nervión district opened on 7 September 1958 with a 3–3 friendly against Real Jaén; the first official match, on 21 September 1958, was a 4–2 defeat to Real Betis. It is named after Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, Sevilla president, who died in 1956. For the 1982 World Cup it gained a roof over the main stand and new lighting, and it became all-seated in 1998. Further renovations followed in 2015 and 2018. In April 2026 a plan to rebuild it on the same site for about 55,000 received preliminary approval, with Sevilla to play at La Cartuja during the works.
