History

About Estádio Municipal de Famalicão

The ground opened on 21 September 1952 with a match between FC Famalicão and Boavista, and was formerly known as the Campo dos Bargos. Famalicão had earlier played at Berberia and at the Freião ground. It was remodelled in 1963 and again in 2015, when the club returned to professional football. A 2019 council tender of €8 million to renovate it fell through because the work was costed at a minimum of €12 million. In 2025 the council proposed a new €24 million stadium on the same site, to be built and run by private developers under a 53-year concession.
