History
About Estádio do Rio Ave FC
As Rio Ave rose through the divisions the club needed a ground that met the legal standards, so it left the Campo d’Avenida in the town centre, where it played its last match on 13 May 1984. Vila do Conde council bought land beside the arches of the 18th-century aqueduct that supplied the Convent of Santa Clara, and the new stadium opened on 13 October 1984 with a 3–2 win over Sporting CP. Seats installed in 2009 cut the capacity, and in November 2020 the east stand (Bancada Nascente) was demolished because of structural problems, leaving about 5,300 places. In March 2025 storm Martinho damaged the remaining stand’s structure, and Rio Ave played their last four home games of that season at Paços de Ferreira.

The east stand, opposite the TV side, demolished in November 2020 because of structural problems.
