History
About Estadio de Mendizorroza
Mendizorroza opened on 27 April 1924, the eve of the feast of San Prudencio, patron of Álava, with Deportivo Alavés playing Unión Deportiva Deusto. It began as a modest pitch with a small roofed main stand. The biggest redevelopment came in the 1998–99 season, after Alavés’ third promotion to the top flight, when the corners were closed and capacity reached 19,840. Plans announced in 2016 to expand the ground towards 28,000–32,000 were delayed, and its future remains under discussion.
