History

About Estádio Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas

The stadium was built in 2002 after two promotions in a row took Moreirense from the third tier to the Primeira Liga, and it opened on 20 October 2002. It was designed by the engineer Portilha and was built with floodlights. During the 2002–03 season the club left the ground for a few weeks while the league inspected the lighting towers and safety conditions, and the stadium was later cleared for professional football. In 2025 the club announced plans for a new stadium for about 10,000 spectators, costing around €16 million and due by 2030, with the current ground to be kept for training and second-team matches.
