History

About Estadio Abanca-Balaídos

Balaídos opened on 30 December 1928, when Celta beat Real Unión of Irún 7–0. It was rebuilt for the 1982 World Cup, when it staged Italy's three group matches. A phased redevelopment began in 2015: the Tribuna and Río stands were rebuilt by 2018, a new Marcador stand opened in June 2023, and the Gol stand closed in 2025 for rebuilding, due to reopen in early 2027.
