History

About BUKO Stadion

The municipal Sportpark Schoonenberg was built after the Second World War, when the grounds of VSV and Stormvogels had been destroyed, and opened on 27 March 1948 with a match between the two clubs. They merged in 1963 to form Telstar, who have played here ever since. By the mid-1960s the ground held about 17,000, and the visit of Ajax in 1967 brought chaos when spectators stood on the pitch. A new main stand by Zwarts & Jansma architects opened on the west side in 2009. After promotion to the Eredivisie in 2025, the artificial pitch was replaced with heated natural grass, the old north bank was levelled for a covered 2,000-seat stand, and the south away section was rebuilt.

Since the 2025 rebuild all four sides are in use and seated. Visiting supporters are in the south end.

• Hoofdtribune (west)

  Main stand opened in 2009, with a translucent PVC roof on timber trusses and a business lounge above the changing rooms.

• Oosttribune

  East side stand, roofed in 1975 and converted from standing to seating in 1999; three rows of temporary seats were added in front in 2025.

• Noordtribune

  Covered seated stand for about 2,000, built in 2025 in place of the old open bank.

• Zuidtribune

  Away section rebuilt in 2025 with 400 seats across almost the full width of the end, behind higher fences.
