History

About Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena

The ground stands on the site of the Dinamo stadium of the mid-1930s, which was demolished from 1969; parts of the old structure were kept in the new one. The rebuilt stadium was inaugurated in September 1976 with Dinamo Tbilisi beating Cardiff City 3–0, and at 74,354 places it was then one of the largest grounds in the Soviet Union. It was named after Lenin until 1990, renamed in 1995 after the Georgian forward Boris Paichadze, and has carried the name Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena since 2011. The 2006 refurbishment made it all-seated, and a further renovation came before it staged the 2015 UEFA Super Cup.

The bowl is an almost oval two-tier stadium. A concourse terrace between the first and second tiers, reached by 23 stairways, holds the government boxes and the commentary positions.
